Balakumaran D is a working Physical Design engineer who leads the VLSI EXPERT Chennai center. He teaches the complete RTL-to-GDSII flow — synthesis, floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and timing signoff — on Synopsys IC Compiler II and PrimeTime, the same toolchain used in production at semiconductor companies.

He also trains the Physical Design track at our Mysuru center, so the standard students get in Chennai is the same one applied across VLSI EXPERT.

What students consistently mention is his methodical approach: he does not stop at showing which button to press. He explains why a standard cell sits in a particular site row, what happens to timing when it doesn't, and how to reason about a design when the tool reports something unexpected. That difference is what separates an engineer who can operate a tool from one who can solve a problem — and it is what interviewers are actually testing for.
